TBHQ Alleviated Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress-Apoptosis and Oxidative Stress by PERK-Nrf2 Crosstalk in Methamphetamine-Induced Chronic Pulmonary Toxicity
Methamphetamine (MA) leads to cardiac and pulmonary toxicity expressed as increases in inflammatory responses and oxidative stress. However, some interactions may exist between oxidative stress and endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS). The current study is designed to investigate if both oxidative stress and ERS are involved in MA-induced chronic pulmonary toxicity and if antioxidant tertiary but...
متن کاملChronic hypercapnia inhibits hypoxic pulmonary vascular remodeling.
Chronic hypercapnia is commonly found in patients with severe hypoxic lung disease and is associated with a greater elevation of pulmonary arterial pressure than that due to hypoxia alone. We hypothesized that hypercapnia worsens hypoxic pulmonary hypertension by augmenting pulmonary vascular remodeling and hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction (HPV). Rats were exposed to chronic hypoxia [inspirat...
متن کاملGlagov Remodeling of Atherosclerotic Arteries
When blood vessels undergo remodeling because of the buildup of atherosclerotic plaque, it is thought that they first undergo compensatory or outward remodeling, followed by inward remodeling: the lumen area stays roughly constant or increases slightly and then decreases rapidly. The second phase of remodeling is supposed to start after the plaque burden exceeds about 40%. These changes in the ...
متن کاملChronic , Massive Thrombotic Obstruction of the Pulmonary Arteries
CHRONIC, massive thrombotic obstruction of the pulmonary arteries has attracted interest recurrently through the years as a neglected cause of pulmonary hypertension of obscure etiology, usually discovered at autopsy.'-10 This form of "cor pulmonale" has been regarded as a rare entity of academic rather than therapeutic interest. Such opinions now require revision. With the advent of pulmonary ...
متن کاملMultisystem toxicity after methamphetamine use
Methamphetamine (MA) may cause hepatotoxicity, rhabdomyolysis, acute kidney injury, and neurotoxicity separately or together. We report a patient admitted with muscle weakness, pain, and oliguria 1 week after MA use; requiring repeated hemodialysis (HD). Multisystem toxicity may develop as a result of MA use and appropriate treatment may be life saving.
